Acts 17:11 – Now the Bereans were of more noble character than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the scriptures everyday to see if what Paul said was true. There are two words that I would like to bring your attention to as you read this article. Eagerness: Keen or ardent in desire or feeling; impatiently longingExamine: To inspect or scrutinize carefullyHow is it that we approach the word of God in our daily lives? When we come for our services how do we approach the word of God? Are we thinking, Oh God, let that 15 or 20 minutes go quickly so that we can go home and sleep? Do we receive the word of God with an ardent desire instead of just plain desire? Do we come to hear God’s word with just a longing or with impatient longing?Do you inspect the word of God spoken from the pulpit and scrutinize carefully to see if it is in line with the written word of God? Do we go back and meditate on what has been spoken within the limited time available in a service and ask God to reveal more of what we have heard as we meditate on His word? Each word in the Bible has been inspired by the Holy Ghost and it is important for us to understand the intensity that the author is trying to reflect within the limitations of our language. Before I close, let me show you a few scriptures from the Bible and let us examine ourselves, if our lives reflect the same passion for the things of God. Let us take time and read the following passages:1. Acts 20:7-12 – Are we like Eutychus or are we like the people who gave up their sleep and sat all throughout the night just to hear God’s word?2. Matthew 22:29 – Do we know the scriptures that we might not err?3. Deuteronomy 17:9-11 – It is the job of the priests to teach the Law (the Word of God)4. 1 Peter 2:9 – Are you a priest? Can we then be satisfied by what we hear from the Pulpit alone? This article is not written for us to read and put away. This article is for us to examine our lives and answer each question sincerely and honestly for God sees our thoughts. If as a church we can commit ourselves to being passionate about the word of God, then we will not just see spiritual growth personally but we will also witness a growth in the body of Christ as you fulfill your calling as priests in the family of God. Then in God’s eyes we will be counted noble!
Shalom!
