What is your mind full of?

Philippians 4:8 - Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. When God created man, He created him with a mind of his own. Our mind has the ability to accumulate information and use it in a manner appropriate for various situations and circumstances in our life. What we intake and store in our brain equips us for life. God does not regulate what we put in our minds and He leaves it completely to our choice. This is called FREE WILL. But very few people know how to use the FREE WILL effectively and thus end up using their minds as a garbage bin. The bible teaches us to look to God who is the source of wisdom for guidance. Since most people hold a narrow short term perspective on life that does not often go beyond eat, drink and be merry, they fill their hearts and minds with junk that is only useful within the finite boundaries of time. Hence a lot of people are confused because the clutter in their minds cannot be put together into any logical fashion to explain the reason for their existence. But Paul teaches in Colossians that we need to set our hearts on the things above and have an eternal perspective that we might be able to input data into our minds that will equip and prepare us not just for the life here but for life in eternity. It is important, therefore, that we know what exactly it is that we are feeding on in order to ensure we are not defiling ourselves. Our mind should be used as a treasure chest to hold the pearls (wisdom) of God and not the as the garbage bag for the world to dump into. The passage in Philippians tells us what exactly we need to fill our minds and our hearts with. It is the Word of God! For there is nothing more true, more honourable, more pure, lovely or commendable than God’s word.Like Paul instructs Timothy, as you read this make the commitment to shun profane and idle babblings that increases ungodliness and avoid foolish and ignorant disputes that generate strife and choose to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord.

SHALOM!
